Video about Arctic Monkeys - AM

Amazing rock album that remains timeless and wide-reaching in its cultural relevancy 5 years later. Every song is Alex Turner's melodic intelligence at its prime and a winner - no fillers, no BS, just 12 consistently engaging earworms. And I can't say that about a lot of albums these days! I give my dad credit for discovering "Do I Wanna Know?" on the radio years ago.... his getting me into AM is something I'm forever grateful for.The vinyl mastering annihilates the over-compressed digital versions, rendering this the only way (IMSO: in my subjective opinion) to experience this modern masterpiece. While it is very densely mixed with a lack of 'space' and transparency in more intense sections, AM on vinyl is cleverly engineered to dodge much of the groove mistracking on conical needles, and Chris Bellman's mastering lends a super-airy crispness in the top-end, an enveloping atmospheric air, very good dynamics and a big punch factor to the music that I swear you won't find elsewhere. The big boomy bass really makes those fat drums so impactful that they shake even the upper floor of the house. I feel that the airy wide-open aura of CB's mastering has truly set the bar for how regular (i.e. non-'audiophile edition') modern rock vinyl 'should' sound. Hence, for a long time, it's been one of the standards against which I've measured numerous other LPs of the 21st century vinyl renaissance. I can confidently say Alex and the Monkeys did well to serve a broad audience not only with their music.... they also achieved this broad appeal in their vinyl mastering decisions and choice of engineering personnel.Although I'm not complaining, noise-wise the quality of the vinyl itself is kind of cheesy....just so you know. Just looking at the record, I'm 99% sure it's made by United even though there's no encircled-U in the runout. There is *lots* of inherent URP-style linear orange peel on the vinyl surface causing an annoying rumble floor in between tracks, and ever since I got this new from Amazon way back in early 2014, there's always been some crackling in the first minute of each side. But I'll take it! It's acceptable. What matters is it doesn't ruin the listening experience or overpower the music at all. Although the gatefold sleeve feels a bit cheap 'n' flimsy, as others mention this indeed comes with a protective poly lined inner, a very nice touch.

Pretty decent SQ. 4/5 I love the 180g vinyl that they wrapped in a paper sleeve, but they took the extra step and lined the paper sleeve with plastic. Every record should be contained like this. Prevents scratching and paper residue. Great album.

If anyone has a download coupon (used or unused) that they want to sell then drop me a reply

Let me start by saying that imo, nearly every song on this album is an instant classic. As reviewer ‘draculateeth’ mentioned, it’s probably the most well-known album of theirs but indeed, it wholly deserves this praise. It’s really rather remarkable how close they’ve hit the nail on the head here! Alex Turner is persuasive and lyrically strong as ever. The band’s timing and instrumentation is right on point. The piece of vinyl itself offers a very high quality rendition of the songs, no pops/clicks whatsoever. On top of that it’s very tick and sturdy (noticeably thicker than other 180gr I own). Rating this 5 stars without a doubt in my mind!

I'd also like to add that they've gone to the trouble of putting this single vinyl in a sturdy gatefold sleeve and that the inner sleeve is a high-quality anti-static one, something which is quite rare nowadays. Only adds to the overall satisfaction of this album!

Does anybody else's copy sound just a bit too slow?
  • Quttaro
Sounds wonderful, Haven't noticed any hissing on my AT-LP120-USB and Klipsch R-15PM setup set to Line out. This album itself is great and what I expected after playing a few of these songs on Rocksmith2014.
  • Modigas
The music on this album is as good as expected but production quality of the LP (Europe version) is rather poor. Frayed edges and both sides were very dusty. Even after an dedicated cleaning process this vinyl is crackling as hell.

Listening to The Coral ‎– The Coral Album from 2002 and there is quite a lot of similarities in that and this Artic Monkeys Album. They must of got inspiration from it, especially the first 2 tracks from the Coral Album.

Classic album. This is pretty much the album that Arctic Monkeys is most well-known for, and it honestly deserves its accolades. The Monkeys are at their most suggestive and captivating, with lyrics that sound like confessions and instrumentation that sounds like secrets. This album is as smooth as butter and sticks to your mind like pitch. It's absolutely gorgeous. AM is definitely one of the iconic albums of this generation.
  • Cordanara
Good album. But on this Domino release, there is a very noticeable noise/hiss at the end of the last song (last few seconds), and through the entire runout. (on side A). On side B, it's very similar, hiss is present in the left channel. That would be a coincidence I would suppose, but I got another vinyl from Domino (Hot Chip - In Our Heads) and the very same issue is present on BOTH of records in that release!(no, there is nothing wrong with my turntable, trust me.)I assume this is mastering issue, but nobody listens to the test pressings?
  • Malhala
I thought on that on albums that barely fit on one LP, The transition from music to matrix run-out hiss fade in is normal as I have a few single LPs from various artist with the same anomaly.
  • Tcaruieb
Sounds like this is a pressing issue rather than a mastering issue...
  • Fhois
Great album, wonderfully mixed and produced. Flow from beginning through end is great, and even the b-side has some catchy tunes. 5/5
  • asAS
anyone else's got this with 2 cds inside and no booklet?
  • Zbr
Just wanted to thank for all the feedback on the quality of the record! It is superb indeed. Enjoy!
  • Thorgahuginn
Although it's not the most groundbreaking record, I really love this album. All tracks sound very solid and together they form a very dynamic listening experience. AM is full of killer riffs and beautiful background vocals, not to mention the fuzzy solos. Even though I found the influence of Josh Homme less apparent on Humbug, it really comes to surface this time. At this point, Arctic Monkeys have definitely moved away from their image of young rascals towards a stadium rock act.
  • Cordalas
Anyone's got the vinyl version? Is it worth it? No distortion/compression/mastering/pressing bullshit?
  • Dibei
think it sounds fine. no glaring issues.. really fantastic album.
  • Oveley
I agree with JonathanPTait.Just bought it today and I have to say after it's first spin it sounds as good as I could of hoped really. Definitely sounds better than the CD to my ears.So therefore, WORTH IT!
  • Bukelv
Fairly good pressing quality, I mean it is 180gm vinyl, both sides sound good. It's the standard you expect from all Domino releases. Good mastering too. Not incredible. But worth purchasing.
