Attica Blues burst onto the scene with their VIBES, SCRIBES & DUSTY 45'S EP, which, at the time, fit perfectly with the Mo'Wax aesthetics. "Attica's Theme" merges a hip-hop beat with some smooth funk chords, while "Contemplating Jazz" is more spare, putting Roba's vocals front and center, with the jazz filtering behind her. "D'Afros Picky Head Dub" of the same track goes even more abstract and resonant. And the slow chug of "Abstract Original (Deep South Mix)" hints at their rhythmic abilities. A strong harbinger of what was to come from this trio.
