Fortunately there are some secrets left in this world. Especially in this case here with its brave approach that goes beyond mathematical order and human conditions. These recordings are a musical conversation between the protagonist, a flutist with 40 years of playing experience, and ancient japanese buildings, gardens and just natural places. Unlike what one might expect, this is not a studio recording. The liner notes to each track give us an idea where he was standing at which time in the year and what was going through his mind while piping. A map with the locations is included. Airplanes and their time of appearances had been observed to asure a window of noise free recording. This concept was even pushed into restricted zones like temples that had not been made accessible before for any outsiders. One time they chose which was a former refugium of an emperor a thousand years ago, then enriched by him with soulful tunes at 4 AM.Thôsha Suihô's improvisations were deliberately anchored in the four dimensional space. So he was "talking" with a far away temple bell or a nearby singing morning bird. At the same time he let himself be influenced by each places' individual histories. At parts he was juxtaposing something against his expectations by answering spring with sadness and autumn with joy. This 4 LPs box offers a glimpse at the riddle which is surrounding us, the never ending cycle of being, the complex story called eternity - the cruelty of the transience of beauty and the fulfillment in a new begining.

I actually went back and bought this record from a shop, where I saw it a few days earlier, after reading this review. I thought it would be linked to Vivaldi but wow, this is so magical. 34crowns Thanks!! :O
