Another of those timeless Soul-Funk standards produced by Curtis Mayfield on his label Curtom (the same where the legendary Baby Huey album was released), "Don't Change Of Love" was acclaimed as one of the most important tunes of the brothers band from Chicago Five Stairsteps & Cubie, the so-called "The First Family of Soul". The friend of the band and neighbour Fred Cash was the responsible for introducing The Five Stairsteps (affectionately called by their mother due to their height as teenagers) to the legendary Curtis Mayfield, and the rest was history. The magic drums in the very beginning of "Don't Change Of Love" by Five Stairsteps & Cubie became a standard for countless producers since then, mostly Hip Hop (if you remember hearing the beats of "Hip Hop Horay" by Naughty By Nature, you'll know what I'm talking about). De La Soul, LL Cool J, Nice & Smooth, Chubb Rock, Big Daddy Cane, A Tribe Called Quest, Ice Cube, Saafir, House Of Pain were only some of the Hip Hop acts that sampled those intense drums from "Don't Change Your Love". Drum n' Bass genre also Honored its beats through Roni Size on "Only A Dream" and on "Titan" by Photek. "Don't Change Your Love" romantic lyrics had all that Northern Soul essence, with very sincopated quotes ("I luv' you!... You know it too... So don’t change your way!"). The original tune was included on the compilations "Essential 60's Northern Soul Dancefloor Classics Volume 1" & "The Curtom Story".
