Does anyone own an original Cooking Vinyl pressing of this that doesn't start off a bit crackly? The very quiet lead-in is very unforgiving to this. The rest of the album is just fine, perfect even, but I've seen various people claiming that their 'near mint' copies have this, and I'd say mine is near mint too.
  • Shaktiktilar
Trouble is, the new pressing sounds nowhere near as good as the original (on my system). Damn it! Original pressing is full of life and energy, and this one just seems a bit polite. Nice flat, clean, noise free pressing, sure, but the dynamics just aren't there for me.
  • Punind
Near Mint here as well and same issue. Waiting patiently for my reissue in the mail!

I gotta say, there are very few bands with albums close to the end of their career, that for me, defined the experience of their music. While I love the older stuff, this is the album that I play from start to finish on a regular basis. There simply (and admittedly subjectively) isn't a great tune on this album.
  • Aria
I assume you actually meant to write there isn't a *bad* tune on this album, or else the preceding statement makes no sense!
  • MrCat
There isn't a great tune on this album? River Of Orchids the opener, is one of their best and exploratorive in its production. As for the rest it continues to hold great experimental pop songs. Definitely up there with their best, and many of the XTC fans I've spoken with agree.
