Spooky - Stereo EP flac mp3 download

I agree with the review above - I remember picking up the 12" promo of this in 1995 in a second hand store off Shaftesbury Ave, anyway, this comes from a time when British Techno / Electronic Music was really strong, the likes of Spooky, AFX, Ultramarine, Orbital etc were all big parts of the Summer Festival circuit and this EP rminds me of those halcyon days. Stereo is the lead cut and a driving piece of emotional electronics that worked well on more experimental floors as well as in the car, the track builds and builds relentlessly. Can't Remember again is trademark Spooky, with a clanging drum pattern and metallic riff. Do Not Adjust Your Set sounds like the Spooky remix of a Natacha Atlas track (forgot the name though, sorry) or Plaid track. Finally, my least favourite track on this EP is Mono - which sounds like those pounding techno tracks favoured at Club UK, Wandsworth which sounded great in a massive dirty club, but not so strong otherwise.

There's an interesting variety of tracks here. Can't Remember sounds like one of the prettier, quirkier pieces from the Aphex back-catalogue, perhaps with percussion from Disjecta, Do Not Adjust Your Set is a slightly discordant and distorted, but not unattractive, downtempo tune while Mono is a chunky 145bpm techno track with a brooding bassline and a great moody jungle-style breakbeat section. However the stand-out tune is definitely the title-track - Stereo takes an infectious church organ bass riff and adds a proper hardcore 140bpm breakbeat loop and some Orbitalesque twiddles to create a really novel and ear-catching track; this tune alone makes the EP well worth picking up.
