A limited editicn of 1000 of these, so hurry while stocks last. A live recording by SLEEP CHAMBER, which you should like if you are familiar with them. I was not when I first received this and had expected trance music, or something harmonic, so my initial impression was "oh, no, a tribal version of CLICK CLICK!'. By the third track I had changed my mind and was well on the road towards being a SLEEP CHAMBER addict. The sound leans heavily towards percussion, although there's enough guitar, synth, horn & violin etc. to sketch in between the rhythms. They could be hailed the true children of THROBBING GRISTLE & TEST DEPT although they have a sound all of their own. Some of this is quite disturbing - "Ov This Flesh" for example with it's chanting & violin tension, while the vocalist shouts over the cauldron of noise.Sexual domination seems to be the main theme of their lyrical content. This seems to work in the same way that, say, political, or love songs do - if you're into it, then it's an anthem for the soul - if you're not, then it's beating a broken drum. They finish with a fairly straight-if-fast version of "The Light Pours Out Of Me". As with PETE MURPHY's cover of the same, they can't put a candle to it.All in all a record worth investing in.Originally reviewed for Soft Watch.
