Tor Lundvall finally releases a vinyl album. As far as I am concerned this is long overdue. “Sleeping And Hiding” to me sounds reminiscent of the mood put forth on his other two vinyl efforts: the singles “Evening/Leaves” and “Mizuko Jizo” which are two of my personal favorites. Where “Empty City” is cold, detached and austere – this newest album is a dreamily elegant and structured release very much befitting the LP format. It might be my ears playing tricks on me, but I’m also under the impression that his vocal delivery on “Sleeping And Hiding” is somewhat strengthened compared to other relevant releases and furthermore there are no instrumental tracks here which is another break from the mould. The enclosed insert states that the music was initially recorded in 2005 which makes sense as it is somewhat similar in style to “Last Light”, released the previous year. Where one is used to intermittent abstract ambient and minimal pieces on his albums, Sleeping And Hiding is stripped of them completely and relies entirely on the strength of composition. If I had to choose a couple of favorite tracks, then surely Midnight Ride, Dark Roads and Sleeping are among them. Simply put, anyone who is even remotely interested in the visual, musical and lyrical output of Tor Lundvall should definitely get this record as it is a must-buy for 2009, so get it while you can!
