I just stumbled upon a Japanese pressing of this album that is labeled "TD-1248" and says "IANT" in the upper left corner with some Japanese writing on the album jacket. No sash, but has anyone heard of this pressing before? It's a stereo one...

To my ear, this is the most satisfying Nilsson album. Nilsson had a real feel (as did Randy Newman), for sweet, nostalgic melodies sprinkled with irony and cynicism. The only weak songs are not Nilsson songs. Neither McCartney's 'Mother Nature's Son' nor Walker's 'Mr. Bojangles' have gained much charm over the years. They've maintained a respectable charm and Nilsson doesn't really add anything to his versions. But the album does showcase Nilsson's own writing talents. The best stuff is all his -- 'Morning Glory Story', 'Maybe', 'I Guess the Lord Must Be in New York City' (he wrote this for the film 'Midnight Cowboy' but it was rejected). 'Rainmaker', co-written by Bill Martin, could have been a hit, had Harry or RCA been interested.Somehow, Nilsson seems to be in the shadow of his friend Randy Newman. Newman more successfully marketed his similar sardonic style. Ironically, one of Nilsson's finer works is 'Nilsson Sings Newman', where Harry's wonderful voice only adds to the magic of Newman's songs. This album ends with a Newman tune. 'Simon Smith and the Amazing Dancing Bear' concludes the album on an upbeat jazzy tempo. The nostalgic melodies, along with the almost tin-type picture of 'Harry' build a charming, cohesive theme to the album.
