Released in 1996, just as Children by Robert Miles had broke worldwide to announce the sound of "Dream House", this mix by Gigi D'Agostino and Mauro Picotto still stands as the defining compilation of that curious sub-genre.Not that Children (which is of course featured in this mix) overrides anything else on offer here. Quite contrary, by the time it appears in the mix you are slightly disappointed due to the constantly innovative and new melodies you were hearing.The cd begins with Fly by Gigi D'Agostino, a tastefully done cover version from an obscure 80's film called Mediterraneo. The melody opens your mind to images of a past you never knew, yet it still feels personal. Bakerloo Symphony by Mauro Picotto evokes similar feelings, I can only describe it as early period Jean Michel Jarre but obviously with a dance rhythm.I don't wish to focus on every track individually as I know that makes for dull reading, but to be honest the material on this mix is so strong I am tempted! Giallone, Happily, My House, Halleluja, Marimba, Melody Voyager… All so good.I just want to quickly focus on the mixing of this album; it's fantastic. Gigi & Mauro treat the tracks with a really organic feel, you can tell they respect the music and put it above their DJ credentials.Okay, special mention goes to two tracks. Firstly, Gigi D'Agostino's remix of Android (a track which was also remixed just last year by Giuseppe Ottaviani). The most relaxing (yet uplifting) of melodies greets you, followed by a very mature trance foundation. This track is extremely rare on cd single (the full unmixed Gigi D'Agostino remix has to be heard to be believed)! Finally, Noise Maker Theme (again by D'Agostino) is a classic. A simple minor key melody invites you in, and fixates you into a trance in a very hypnotic way.An album for fans of that certain "beautiful mystery" in trance.
