Where the symbol "IV" appears like a man standing before something which is to follow, "V" recalls symmetry, a complete cycle, a decent and a return. So, let's be realistic, this is Blackfield's last album. And unlike IV, it's a proper goodbye. The songs are focused, more than any album since their excellent debut. Aviv and Steven share the stage more than the last two records. Even the album cover harkens to the first Blackfield album cover. Like all Blackfield, these songs are a heavy melodrama trip to the precipice of shameless no-return. When you think they've gone too far, they juxtapose it with one of their classic hooks. A few comments: October. Is Steven auditioning for Broadway? Undercover Heart. Did Aviv just discover Carol King?Doesn't matter. This is their 2nd best album. You can never beat Blackfield I. Even Blackfield I can never beat Blackfield I. But Blackfield V? A fitting farewell. And if we see them again, it better be good, because this one is hard to out-do.

For me it's their third best album. Blackfield I and II are excellent albums, whereas their 3rd and 4th were...meh! I feel this fits nicely in the middle, which for me is a little disappointing. Honestly, I'd like this to be the last time SW collaborates with AG as I don't feel like the band is capable of progressing much further.
