"Stillpoint

At the center of us is a focal point of consciousness
Perfectly still, yet vibrant with life

This is our natural state
Ever at peace, yet ever expanding

Ever at peace
In knowing that being can never cease to be

Thus there is no death

Only eternal life

Ever expanding
In knowing that eternity is never done

We are in continuous motion towards what lies beyond

Across endless new horizons

With some albums of intense promise, it takes a listen and then another listen, and then you walk away from it for a bit, and then revisit it again to see how the thoughts come together. Since last July, I've given this album some heavy rotation, including many nights during my drifts to sleep. On the first listen, the deep chords that emerged from Havets Sång signaled to me a tipping point taking place.Let's cast aside any doubt: This is by far one of the most entrancing albums I've heard in a long time. Time is not the only variable, for Stillpoint emerges as unmistakably special and is highly visible when stacked against the often overwhelming surfeit of electronic music. Warm, mellifluous textures deeply immerse the listener, and conjure genuine hints of nostalgia. Indeed, this nostalgia is so believable and palpable, as the music is so well blended with organic sounds. I sense while listening throughout that Stillpoint has slowed the Earth's rotation, enabling us to experience a pleasantly long dawn or early morning in mid-summer, as we are set by a brook in the forest or a marsh flanking a briny estuary, perhaps only a short kayak trip away to the cape that separates us from the ocean. It is vibrant, moving and yet timeless—morning persists. These sensations generated by the music ring true even in February, a cold time of year in much of the northern hemisphere. It's clear that Purl has an impressive instinct for artistically representing nature through these textures and melodies. Looking to Wilderness and Havets Sång, two of the most evocative tracks in the set (out of nine generally strong tracks), they are immersive yet panoramic, and they set the stage for what I believe could in time sustain this album as a magnum opus.

It just keeps getting better and better with each listen...simply amazing!

Best dub techno album of the year.
  • Nirad
As expected, another astounding release from Purl! Deep floating ambience with subtle dub/techno influences. And released on one of the finest deep electronic music labels around...what more could you ask for!? 10/10 for this seductively beautiful album!

Brilliant new work by Purl, one of the better genre albums to come down the pike in some time. It doesn't necessarily reinvent the wheel, but his beautiful, shimmering atmospherics have a particularly well-wrought touch, hitting just the right notes of melancholy yet not enough to be treacly, sentimental, or lugubrious. Some tracks reflect the more sweeping, orchestral cinemascope of classic Gas (Wolfgang Voigt) and, of course, decades of ambient shuffle & shift, but overall, Purl's managed to put a new spin on the likes of ambientdubtechno. Not an easy thing to do when so many other records opt for the usual reverb-soaked dub thud & tried-and-true space music clichés.

Astounding record.

This is one of the best artist albums I've heard in a long time. There's just light comfortable vibes throughout. Something to play during Summer, night or day. This albums breathes.

This album is the pinnacle of Ludvig's productions not only under his moniker Purl but generally. This is like a fresh summer breeze entering through the open windows of your beach house, listening to the rippling shore break. Wonderfully arranged tracks somewhat organic and floating with a pinch of melancholy. Don't want to pick one track only, the whole album is a lifetime experience. One of the best I heard this year and in recent years.

Nice review. Couldn't describe the album better...
